In 2007, Dream Theater Colorado of Loveland, Colorado, a Key Digital dealer, won the award for Home Theater Under $50,000 in a team entry presented along with Poehlmann Construction also of Loveland, Colorado.
Dream Theater Colorado and Poehlmann Construction entered a recent basement family room remodel project. The room was transformed when a 64’ built in HDTV was removed and the wall was rebuilt to house a DLP projector and mirror assembly increasing the screen size to an amazing 92”. In-ceiling speakers were also used to generate a surround sound effect that envelops the listener. All AV equipment is housed in a storage room directly behind the screen and front speakers are camouflaged by acoustical fabric which compliments the room décor.
“This was the first year they have entered the awards, and to take top honors on the first attempt is impressive,” says Ken Kanline, Director of the Awards.
The Chrysalis Awards program, begun in 1994, recognizes the nation’s best work in seventeen categories of residential remodeling. Judged by editors and writers of Better Homes & Gardens, Southern Living and The American Institute of Building Design, the winners were selected from over 112 entries from 13 states. The entries were judged on overall design, the creative use of space and materials, and the degree to which the project enhanced the original structure.
