A:

For nearly all applications, it is mandatory that you use the KD-MSCAT8X8 Matrix Switcher with a Smart Balun Receiver (Models KD-VACRX or KD-VACWPRX). However, if you would like to discuss your application with Key Digital’s System Design Group, please call (914) 667-9700

A:

In addition to full independent matrix switching of video and audio, the KD-MSCAT series switchers (also known as the Hercules Series) also offer full independent and bi-directional matrix switching and distribution of IR & RS-232 signals. These command signals are sent via the CAT5 output on the switcher, along with the video and audio information, making the Hercules one of the most robust solutions available in the market today. By default, the Hercules switcher distributes the IR or RS-232 signals received to all outputs, which is ideal for applications in need of an “all on” and “all off” command (ie. opening and closing of a bar/restaurant each day). However, it can also distribute control commands to each individual output, or any combination of outputs desired via an IR and RS-232 masking command. The command must be sent via RS-232 from your master controller (ie. Universal Remote’s MSC-400) preceding the IR or RS-232 command that you wish to distribute to the desired output zone or zones. The command is then sent to the desired zone, along with the video and audio signals, and received by the KD-VACRX or KD-VACWPRX receiver Smart Balun™. Each Smart Balun™ is then able to emit the command via the phoenix adapter that is connected to your desired device to be controlled (ie. a display or an A/V receiver).
