Video/Control Adapters
How do I select the right Video/Audio Distribution Amplifier for my application? Why might I need a Video Adapter?
Q: How do I select the right Video/Control Adapter for my application?
A:

KDS has an ever-expanding line of compact (the world’s smallest) high-quality, versatile, and practical HD/SD VIDEO ADAPTERS, designed exactly to suit the needs of our home theater enthusiast, custom installer, business, and retailer customers.

  • KD-VA5 *discontinued* - “Universal” Video Adapter with capability to convert RGBHV/VGA sources to Component output or Component Video sources to RGBHV/VGA output
  • ClearVideo3 (KD-CTCA3) *discontinued* - Automatic Component Video to VGA adapter
  • ClearColor3 (KD-VTCA3) *discontinued* - VGA to Component Video adapter
Q: So, why might I need a Video Adapter?
A:

The video industry has produced many different products to process, switch, and distribute your video. In many instances, the video input or output formats of these products are not compatible. For example, you may have an application where your VGA-out (RGBHV) personal computer, may need to feed a component (YPbPr) HDTV video monitor.

What do you do? One less-palatable option is to purchase all new equipment that is totally compatible, which is a significant investment and limits you for the future to ever consider equipment which does not conform to the standard you purchased. At Key Digital Systems, we have a better solution for you. We have designed economical, high-quality video Adapters, which “glue” your components which may have been designed to diverging standards.

Need to connect your VGA (RGBHV) devices, like Set Top Boxes or computer outputs, to your component HDTV display? Or, do you need to connect your progressive DVD players or other Component Video output devices to a VGA monitor or display? Then KDS has the solution for you.

Video Adapters convert the diverging world of video games, Set Top Boxes, and Personal Computers to the format “type” of your favorite display. For example, you may have a VGA (RGBHV) output Set Top Box that you want to connect to your Component Video (YPbPr) display. Or, you may have a Component Video (YPbPr) video source that you want to connect to your VGA (RGBHV) display.

Q: An important note about interfacing Key Digital products via HDMI with the Sony Playstation
A:
  • All Key Digital products strictly adhere to the specifications of the HDMI format. The format includes the following resolutions:
    • 480i, 480P, 720P, 1080i, 1080P
  • It has come to our attention that there may be issues when connecting our KD-VPHD2 and KD-VPHD3 products with some versions of the Sony Playstation. In our testing, we've determined that this is a result of non-standard HDMI resolutions present as output options on the Playstation. These non-standard resolutions are:
    • 1024X768, 1280X1024, 1600X1200
  • It is possible that upon connecting one of our HDMI devices, the Playstation may automatically default to a non-standard resolution. In this case, the output resolution of the Sony must be manually set to a resolution that is within the specifications of the HDMI format in order to get picture.
